A Gilbert plumber will tell you there are several things that can cause a toilet to leak, however there are some that are more common than others, and believe it or not, the common toilet repairs are very simple for every homeowner to do.

1. One of the first and most common reasons a toilet leaks, is do to a small leak from the bowl to the tank. You may hear your toilet constantly running or refilling for that matter. The cause of this small leak and the toilet continuously refilling is due to a faulty flapper. To do this toilet repair, simply drain the tank and the bowl, take the flapper seat and clean it to make sure that there is a proper seal, and if needed replace the flapper itself if it is damaged and is not sealing even after you have cleaned it.

2. A hissing sound coming from your toilet is another common problem. If you hear this sound you are going to want to check the floater, refill tube, and the inlet-valve assembly. This hissing sound is caused by water escaping through the inlet-valve assembly. The first thing to check, would be to see if the floater is sticking. If the floater is sticking, it may simply just need to be adjusted. Next, you will want to make sure that the refill tube is not down into the overflow tube, if it is you may need to adjust it and if it can not be adjusted, you may need to replace it.

3. The top most common toilet problem that is a simple toilet repair, is a clogged toilet. You can use a drain snake to clear the clog, but the most effective way is to use a simple force-cup plunger. Place the plunger over the drain in the toilet and begin pressing forcefully in order to create enough pressure to unclog the drain. Lift the plunger up a little to let some water in, this will help tell you whether or not the drain is still clogged.
